  1. I just signed up around the beginning of Chanterelle season, this year. Like Bruce said, the forum seems to be the most active. Sites like this are only as active as the users on them. I haven't been on in a couple of weeks, but I to, wondered about the hunts. There doesn't seem to be any input or interactivity regarding the hunts, so i just look at the forum once in awhile. Please do post things about your findings and heck, maybe we can do a sheepshead hunt together or a spring morel hunt...
  2. So far in the last 2 weeks I've found many different boletes. Chestnut bolete, Old man of the woods, bluing bolete. Bitter bolete, and a few unidentified fungal objects (UFOs). Here are a few that I just picked up within the last hour. The top of the photo is all that remained of my bluing bolete. Some thief came and took the cap away ? The next one down is a bitter bolete. It lives up to it's name, so I do not recommend destroying a soup with it's unique flavor. The other two on the , I'm having a difficult time identifying, so, of course they shall not be consumed until I'm 99.99% certain of the type. I wonder if there's anyone here somewhat knowledgeable about boletes that can help me out with the two on the right. They were all found among the Oak leaves in sandy soil. I've only found two Kings and both had been reduced to worm excrement fairly efficiently, within a day off their first appearance. ?

  4. My favorite way to cook them is sauteed in butter with minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce as and good balsamic vinegar. Just cook them through and eat with a great steak or alone???
  5. Thanks for the reminder. I used to find these in abundance as a kid, but never have tasted them. Besides using as a meat substitute, how do you prepare em?
  6. The Orange ones are cinnabar red Chanterelles. I have been harvesting them for over a decade. I love this season?

Well, yesterday I took a friend and my sons out to a county park and we didn't walk very far into the woods before we started seeing these golden ruffled vase shaped, smooth stalked, delectably elusive treats. It's always good to spend a lot more time picking and processing choice mushrooms, than effort looking for them. The forest is absolutely LITTERED with them, so I'm going to spend today, picking up all the litter I can find??? The season is short, so make the time to go. You will not regret it? Almost all the ones I'm finding are on the east/southeast facing slopes near water with semi sunny canopies of deciduous hardwood, amidst the thick undergrowth. Wear long, rugged pants to gingerly plow through the thorns and watch out for the poison ivy. Happy hunting?

    Those are the best mushrooms I've ever tasted in my life.I've only seen them in northern states.Where and when did you find it?
