Andrea Shilling
Hello, new member and mushroom enthusiast, mostly I enjoy taking pictures of the mushrooms I see while hiking but am always frustrated when I can never figure out what they are. Any tips on how to narrow down mushroom types/families? Or is searching through photos until one looks similar the best method? Also these are the most recent 3 that I spotted and was curious as to what they were. Any help in identifying them would be greatly appreciated!
Dhuntington
I know the bottom 2 are some kind of bollet. For more on mushroom identification i would try mushroomexpert.com it has been alot of help. If you cant find it there you can email DR Kou. He is the author of the page. hoosiermushrooms
The top one looks like Amanita cineroconia. I have never found that in Indiana and would be interested in the specimen if you know where it is. The second one is Retiboletus ornatipes. The final one is the Boletus bicolor group. Andrea Shilling
Great! We found all these along the Ogle Lake trail in the Brown County State Park, I didn't take specific notes about where I found each along the trail but all were visible from the path (photos were taken while still standing on the path). Thanks a lot for the help in identification!
Bruce
Try to also get a photo from underneath next time to show gill structure. It is legal to leave the trail to collect mushrooms in Indiana state parks.
