Barry
Found growing at base of old honey locust yesterday. I believe it to be Chicken of the Woods (Cincinnati’s). Not growing in shelf like pattern but vertical up from tree roots. Please help identify Barry
Hoosierfunguy
It does have some likeness to it and it's possible that it's not matured yet. What does it look like now?
Barry
Following the picture I harvested the mushroom. I scoured the internet and found several very similar photos and text that it was an early chicken of the woods. I cooked a small portion (two bites) and found that it does taste like chicken. I waited two days and had no ill effects. Following I had several meals of it with no ill effects, but it is not my favorite eating mushroom and will probably limit my harvesting of it in the future. Next time I would like to try a slightly more mature example. Thanks for your response Barry
