Xiaojun
I think I found one lion’s mare. Please help to ID it. Thanks
Bruce
It's a Hericium, but not a lion's mane. This looks like bear's tooth (Hericium americanum), and is no doubt a little past its prime. Still, a nice find for this late in the year! Xiaojun
Thanks! It is a little bitter when I pan fried it with Olive oil. Is it because it passed the prime? Or I should cook it a bit further to brownish?
KnnthEgnGrdznsk
That one looks a bit gone. I saw a vid on youtube .. Guy named oldmanofthewoods soaks them under cool water and wrings them out . when ones in good shape are bitter
barb365
I generally only fry them lightly, then add to a cream sauce for pasta. They're fabulous that way. Taste lobster-like.
