Looking for polyporus brumalis

Recommended Posts

I am trying to spalt some maple logs to turn on the lathe. I have watched some videos of Sara Robinson from the University of Oregon. She recommends combining turkey tail and polyporus brumalis to achieve the spalting I am looking for. I can easily find the turkey tail but the polyporus is not so easy to find. I believe that I should be able to find it in central Indiana. I know what it looks like in the fruiting form but I am clueless on how to find it otherwise.
